Musicopia’s GIFT OF MUSIC program collects playable instruments and related equipment, and places them in schools, in community organizations, and with students who are eager to play and are in need of an instrument. Musicopia also facilitates minor instrument repairs prior to placement, at no-cost to recipients.
Important:ย โMostย of our drop-off locations cannot accommodate large instruments or bulk donations.ย Please call the drop-off location in advance to inform them of your intentions before dropping off any instruments.ย If they cannot accommodate, please emailย GOM@musicopia.netย to discuss other drop-off options.
We do not accept pianos, organs, accordions, kidย sizeย drum sets, sheet music, or badly damaged instruments, amongst other items.ย Please visit theย Donate anย Instrumentย page for a full list of accepted instruments and equipment.
Every instrument has a story. If you would like to tell us a bit about your instrument and why you chose to donate, pleaseย write us a note!ย Take a selfie while holding it and tag us on social media, attach the note to your instrument, or emailย GOM@musicopia.net.
The IRS does not allow Musicopia to estimate the value of donated instruments, accessories or supplies. Donors are responsible for estimating the value of the donations. If verification is needed for tax purposes, please contact a qualified musical instrument appraiser BEFORE donating.
Some donations may not meet our quality or condition standards or are inappropriate for education purposes and may be sold with 100% of the proceeds being used to offset the cost of repairing instruments or purchasing new ones.
To donate an instrument:
1. Fill out and print (if possible) theย instrument donation form.
2. Call a GIFT OF MUSICย drop-off location and then bring in the instrument(s). See the map below for a list of locations. Please dust off and clean them before drop-off.
3. Speak with a drop-off location employee and then leave the instrument(s) with the donation form at the drop-off location.
4. Expect a series of emails as the process progresses. The Confirmation of Receipt is what you may need for tax-purposes.
Through your Instrument Donation Drive, you will be supporting Musicopiaโs GIFT OF MUSIC program, where we collect, repair, and place donated instruments in schools with students who are eager to playย and are in need of a quality instrument.
With the publicโs help, we hold instrument donation drives and benefit concerts throughout the year, enabling us to give the gift of music to children who would love to play an instrument but do not have resources to buy or rent the needed equipment.
Studies have shown that music education has a positive effect on childrenสนs emotional and intellectual growth, and improves basic reading and math skills. Involvement in the performing arts strengthens selfโesteem, and encourages selfโdiscipline, teamwork, and school attendance.โ
Your Instrument Donation Drive can Transform a Childโs Life!
How to organize your GIFT OF MUSIC Instrument Donation Drive:
Designate when you are going to hold the instrument drive and where the drop off location will be.
Contact Musicopia for your customized flyer/posters and donation forms.
Distribute flyers and display posters in your workplace/school/organization and the community.
Please have the donor complete the Instrument Donation Form when donor delivers an instrument. The form can be found on our website:ย www.musicopia.net. This allows Musicopia to personally thank your donor for his/her donation and acts as a tax receipt.
Please store instruments in a safe and secure place.
Please contact us at 215โ829โ9522 x103 or GOM@musicopia.netย and someone from Musicopia will direct you to a nearby instrument drop off location or discuss other options for the collection of your instruments if needed.
If you are interested in helping out, please fill out the volunteer form below. We welcome volunteers of all ages to help with events, thank you calls and notes, repairing or transporting donated instruments, and more. Our work could not be done without our volunteers and we so appreciate your interest.
Please note: To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and partners, clearances are required before volunteers (18 or older) can serve in-person. To learn more or to apply for your clearances, visit the PA Department of Human Services.

We cannot accept:
โEver since I was little I have always had a desire to learn to play drums. Now that I have my own set, I can begin practicing for my future. I plan to attend a college with a strong music program. After college, I plan to be the leader of and/or manage my own band, and if possible, have my own record label. I have always wanted a drum set of my own. Because of this generous donation, I now can practice what I have long desired to play.โ
"I play the clarinet and I am in 4th grade I like playing my instrument because itโs like a whole other world. I would like to thank you, for making one of my wishes come true!"
"Music to me is important because it just flows in my blood. Thank you for the instruments. You made me become more interested in playing and I like it."
"Thank you so much for generously providing me with an instrument. Ever since I started playing tuba, I used the schoolโs instrument. But it is even better to have your own โ you have done that for me. Again, I thank you and I am grateful that such a thing was possible in such hard times."
