Work Environment: Hybrid. Virtual/remote administrative work. Visits to school and community programs as assigned. Some weekend work required for concerts and special events.

As of January 1, 2026, Musicopia and long-time affiliate Musicopia Dance (formerly Dancing Classrooms Philly) merged with Musicopia Inc as the surviving entity. This strategic merger brings to the forefront the importance of dance to youth development, while continuing to champion the power of music.
Musicopia Drumlines is a free, after-school percussion program serving middle and high school students throughout the Philadelphia region. Founded in 2008, Drumlines provides students with consistent access to high-quality music instruction, instruments, and ensemble-based learning. Students participate in a minimum of twice weekly rehearsals led by professional teaching artists, develop musicianship and leadership skills, and perform regularly at school and community events. The program emphasizes teamwork, discipline, cultural expression, and student engagement through percussion-based music making.
The Musicopia String Orchestras (MSO) program is an out-of-school orchestra program for Philadelphia students ages 7-18. Supplemental activities include intensive chamber coaching for advanced students, group lessons, performance opportunities, and collaborations with guest composers and performers. Position Description
The Program Manager position, which includes Drumlines and Musicopia String Orchestra management,
oversees the day-to-day management and execution of these Drumlines programs, provides in-school and
afterschool programming support, and provides data and reporting support for grant-funded programs. This
role ensures high-quality program delivery and reporting through strong coordination with teaching artists,
schools, families, transportation partners, and internal departments.
The Program Manager exercises independent judgment in program operations while aligning with
organizational strategy, policies, and goals set by senior leadership. This position plays a critical role in
maintaining program quality, strengthening partnerships, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring
accurate reporting.

Salary: Flat fee of $125 per rehearsal, $50 per additional hour
When: Tuesdays from 5:15 – 7:45pm, September through the end of May. There are 2-3 concerts per year on Saturdays.

Position Description
The MSO Violin and Cello Coaches leads weekly sectionals at every rehearsal with both ensembles: MSO, Musicopia String Orchestra (7th – 12th grade students) and MYSP, Musicopia Young String Players (3rd – 8th grade students). Each sectional is typically 1 hour, totaling about 2 hours of teaching time for each rehearsal. Coaches may also play along with students during the full ensemble rehearsals and in performances.
This role is pivotal in shaping the musical journey of young students and enhancing the cultural vibrancy of the community through dynamic orchestral performances.

Each year, we send artists to schools throughout the Delaware Valley for long-term, small group music instruction. The program could include: in-school student pull-outs, aiding an existing music teacher during class, or working after school with kids to hone and build music skills. Musicians of all stripes needed, but especially Brass, Woodwind, Guitar, Vocalists, and String instructors. Join our roster of talented artists and be ready to start school programs that fit your schedule. Rates from $30-$50 an hour based on experience. The FAME Teaching Artist is an independent contractor and not an employee, partner, or agent of Musicopia. FAME Teaching Artists are professional musicians who may provide the same type of services for other organizations or individuals and are solely responsible for professional development and training to enhance artistic talents.

About FAME
Musicopia’s Fostering Artistry and Musical Excellence (FAME) program provides sustained, year-round music education, through small group vocal or instrumental performance coaching and lessons to supplement school or community program’s music curricula.
FAME Teaching Artists interact with students for 45-to 60-minutes each week to build student confidence, knowledge of musical theory, and instrumental mastery. Teaching artists can develop curriculum independently or provide expertise within existing music programming, providing instruction that ranges from basic to advanced.
Musicopia’s primary goal is to connect students with music. The FAME Program for Coaching and Lessons works with schools and community organizations to provide quality and cost-effective music instruction opportunities for in-school or after-school programs. All FAME coaching programs are developed to create a personalized, valuable, and fun learning experience for the students.
