Drummer, Leon Jordan, and singer, Alexandra Day, combine forces to help students explore two of the most intuitive forms of music making: percussion and vocals. Spanning genres including jazz, Caribbean, traditional choral, and current pop, this interactive program presents many types of rhythms, techniques, percussion instruments, vocal styles, as well as historical and cultural contexts. This program gets students out of their seats and out of their comfort zones, and into the expansive and inspiring experience of playing percussion and singing.

Alexandra (Alex) Day teaches voice, piano, guitar, and ukulele. Singing and playing piano ever since she was a tiny kid, she studied piano at Temple University and graduated with a degree in Classical Voice Performance. She has released two CDs of original folk music, and sings regularly with jazz combos and party bands throughout the Delaware Valley.
Leon Jordan, Sr. began studying percussion in the Philadelphia School System. He continued his musical studies at the University of the Arts-Conservatory. He studied independently with several respected and accomplished musicians including, Philly Joe Jones, Gerald Price, Butch Ballard, Max Roach, Leonard “Doc” Gibbs and Pablo Batista. Leon Jordan has sustained a career as a full-time professional musician and educator for more than thirty-five years.
